Why do we overcomplicate health?
I see this so much today, people are so confused and have no idea where to start in terms of feeling better, physically and emotionally. How to heal, what to eat, how to sleep, how to move, how to breathe, how to think, what supplements to take…. I feel this space has so much noise – it is mind boggling to navigate and be consistent with some way of living.
I have my views, and they may not be correct but I even have learnt to let go of rigidity and systematic approaches to health.
I had the fortunate experience to have a one on one with Alberto Villoldo, I read his book You can Grow a New Body and a few others.
During our consultation he reminded me over and over that the body’s natural state is perfect health, divine healing and a sense of natural fulfillment and wonder.
I wanted to know specifics, what I need to be doing – he answered gently, you just need to be… let go, surrender, be more fluid in mind and body, live at ease with yourself and your environment.
I had an immediate sense of lightness when hearing these words. There is no perfection, no one way of nourishment, no one way of doing anything, or magic formula to any of our issues. We invite our challenges, welcome them towards us and thank them for showing up – it makes for a different perspective.
There is this human struggle to achieve perfection and the heavy burden that it carries.
What I see is:
- Chronic stress
- Inability to sleep
- Hormonal imbalances
- Cancer
- Anxiety, depression
- Fatigue
- Ingestion of processed foods, pharmaceuticals, alcohol and drugs
- Constant pursuit of pleasure and happiness
- Resentment, regret and anger
- Punishment – over exercise & under eating,
- Consumerism in excess
- Addiction
- Self-hate
- Obsession with staying youthful, botox, filler, surgery, self-mutilation at any cost
- Feeling alone
- “All about ME” mentality
- Lack of purpose
Health is simple – create an environment in which your body responds to you with ease. This process is not always easy, there will be challenges and obstacles, totally a natural part of life.
It takes a lot of work but getting some of the basics in place makes the world of difference.
- Drink clean mineral water
- Make sure you move/exercise every day, ideally in nature, and don’t over exercise
- Aim to get sunlight every day, ideally morning sunlight to set your circadian rhythm for the day.
- Eat real whole food, as close to nature as possible, ideally organic and seasonal. When eating protein make sure it’s hormone-free and grass fed. Take a read through my blog on ‘My Guide To The Ideal Nourishing Plate’
- Prioritise sleep – good restorative sleep is everything for physical and mental well being. Take a read through my sleep blog for tips to maintain sleep hygiene
- Have a reason to wake up in a positive way – it will set you up for a healthy mindset for the day
- To be of service to yourself and others
- Connect with family, community, friendships
- I believe it’s important to show and feel gratitude, forgiveness and surrender
When people come to me for health optimisation, nutrition alone doesn’t cut it which is why I want to share this information – something to consider.
